Bear Habitat Preservation
Preservation of bears and their environment is our ultimate goal. There are many issues conservationists face when tackling the issues related to bear population and habitat preservation. Some issues are very controversial while other issues are less publicized. We want to present information about all the issues from all sides so that you can be more informed about how to help with preservations efforts.
Shrinking Habitats
Humans are destroying or moving into bear habitat. We need to find a balance so that both bears and humans have the room they need to live and thrive. We want to understand the depth of the problem and what we can do to help minimize the impacts on bears and humans alike. We believe there are many simple solutions to these issues that will allow both bears and humans to survive and prosper.
Hunting
Legal hunting is an emotional issue for many people when it comes to bears. We believe that hunters have a right to pursue their sport. However, that pursuit cannot have adverse, long-term effects on bear populations. While trophy hunting can generate millions of dollars for habitat restoration, guidelines and regulations must be in place to ensure these types of activities do not deplete bear populations.
Poaching
Poaching is illegal and must be stopped! Bears should not be killed simply for their gall bladders, paws and livers. These illegal actions must be dealt with quick legal actions. While, we support the National Park Service and their policies against bear poaching, we feel there are more stringent regulations that must be enacted to protect our bear populations.
Global Warming: Fact, Fiction or Somewhere in Between
“Something fundamentally wrong with the way temperature and carbon are linked in climate models”. This statement is from the 2009 peer- reviewed journal Nature Geo science. Their findings were that in an ancient, 55 million year ago warming period, CO2 was not the major blame and that “unknown processes accounted for much of this warming in the ancient hot spell.”
Gerald Dickens, oceanographer, professor of Earth Sciences at Rice University and co-author of the study states that “In a nutshell, theoretical models cannot explain what we observed in the geological record.” These statements were pertaining to the warming period 55 million years ago.
Robert Endlich, declared on July 12, 2009, that “over geologic time, there has been 15 to 25 times more CO2 than current concentrations: the claim that this time we will reach a tipping point is alarmist, ludicrous and totally without foundation.” Robert W Endlich is an atmospheric scientist at the New Mexico State University.
“As a software engineer, I know that climate model software doesn’t meet the best standards available. We’ve made quite a lot of progress, but we’ve still quite a ways to go.” This is a comment posted by Gary Strand, a software engineer working at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, posted on WattsUpWithThat on July 5, 2009.
Global temperatures have plunged .74 degrees F since Al Gore’s film. This is another “fact” that has appeared on the internet.
What part of climate change science is true? What is false? How much is political theater, economic agenda or personal drama? Where will we go with this issue? Will it be defined by science or be politicized by some that see this as their way to riches or power or both?
Who do we want to define the climate change debate: politicians, bureaucrats, lobbyists, individuals or groups that have vested and personal interests whether they be financial or power based agendas?
Do we really want Congress to make trillion dollar tax decisions based on individuals that see the environment as a way to get rich, use incomplete or false scientific data or give the advantage to multi-nationals that only see climate change as the next growth spurt for the bottom-line. The answer to that question should be, NO!
Personally, I do not want to see this! I do not want to see the American public strangled with another level of government or more energy taxes. I do not want the government to dictate the pace and direction of environmental progress. I want unbiased science to answer these questions.
I also understand that science is under constant revision as we learn more about our world. Remember, the Earth was once the center of the Universe; the Earth was flat; it was impossible to break the sound barrier; etc. Well, we have found that science has debunked these old theories as they will about our newest theories.
Science and knowledge of our planet and its systems are being redefined each year with new discoveries and new ways of thinking about those new discoveries. We are learning more each year, and that is truly exciting. Let’s not allow politicians or others to stunt this growth with policy and rules that will prevent scientists from working in open and unbiased ways.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is an organization run under the United Nations. This scientific group reviews scientific studies across a wide range of climate change issues. Unfortunately, some, and possibly many, of its reviews are seriously flawed.
One prediction that particularly stood out was that glaciers would disappear from the Himalaya by 2035. This was a completely erroneous, alarmist and untrue prediction based on an opinion of a scientist from India with little science behind it. It was never peer reviewed and was placed in the report as science. This UN report was used to prepare positions by the UN and other governments for climate change policy.
These are incredibly complex and important issues and need be addressed in a manner that is based on better climate models and unimpeachable science. The IPCC does not meet this standard. As of February 2010, the IPCC is allowing independent peer review of their work. Hopefully, this will help in attaining more accurate and scientifically based climate data.
What Can We Do?
Are we just to be lemmings run off the cliff lead by others that look at climate change as a way to make a living and more? I think that we can all have a voice in the policies that need to be adopted to help alleviate our levels of responsibilities in this issue. What we need is an organization that will look at climate issues in a new way.
Bears Unlimited, Inc. has invested the time and resources needed to perform basic environmental research on expeditions to the Arctic regions and bear habitats in the lower 48 states. We also have waded into the pool of technical studies to understand what is happening in this arena. We will dissect these studies and share this knowledge with you so you can bring an informed opinion to the climate issue debate.
Bears Unlimited, Inc. wants you to be informed so that you can help in making the decisions that will define this debate. You need to have the knowledge to pressure your government representatives to do the right thing, for the environment, our country and our world.
We need to control this debate and not allow large corporations and people with massive agendas control it. We encourage you to be knowledgeable and informed when it comes to discussing the implications of climate change and climate change regulations. We hope you look to Bears Unlimited, Inc. to provide you with unbiased and accurate research information to help you make these informed decisions.
